The MSM1 functions as a Mid/Side encoder/decoder, enabling the processing of any stereo device connected to the inserts in either stereo mode or Mid/Side mode. In stereo mode (encode/decode off), the MSM1 operates as a completely passive device. When set to MS, it engages the active mid/side circuitry. Both encoder and decoder can be used independently of each other. In typical MS mode, both the encoder and decoder should be active.

The width control allows you to adjust the level of the side channel, altering the stereo image to be more narrow or wide. The gain range from -6.5dB to +3.5dB is done in 23 steps for easy recall. Additionally, the width circuit can be activated or deactivated instantly using a dedicated pushbutton for quick A/B comparisons. The Mid and Side channels can be muted separately, enabling the focused listening of either the Mid or Side channel with their respective dedicated buttons.
